Hyperhidrosis Surgery

Hyperhidrosis Surgery

Hyperhidrosis brings to mind the image from the movie Airplane where the pilot is sweating so much that it looks like a hose is running from behind him and he needs wiper blades just to keep the sweat out of his eyes. All joking aside, hyperhidrosis can not only be embarrassing it can create other health problems for you.

If you have hyperhidrosis of the feet, not only will you have issues with having to change socks during the day but you will also run the risk of fungal infection of the skin, toes and nails.

Because the production of sweat is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system and is set off by varying factors like temperature or the fight or flight instinct it is difficult to pinpoint what will work best for your situation. Many factors need to be considered like the location of the sweat (hands face, feet, under arm area, etc.).

How severe is the sweating?  How long has it been going on and is it causing you mental distress to where you are becoming clinically depressed. What other treatments have you tried to stop hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis surgery should be the last resort for the average sufferer. Many over the counter topical agents can be used to treat the more minor forms of hyperhidrosis. Botox has been used to some success as well. Aluminum Chloride with Ethyl Alcohol is a great drying agent for axillary hyperhidrosis.

It does not work as well on palmar (hand) and plantar (foot) hyperhidrosis. Odaban is a lotion that has been used with some good effect on hyperhidrosis sufferers. Finally, Gluteraldehyde has been used to successfully treat plantar hyperhidrosis but it causes a severe browning of the skin and can cause additional irritation.

If after trying the various topical and oral medications you still have issues then seek out a qualified doctor for hyperhidrosis surgery.
